Night Diver Specialty

By far one of the most exhilarating diving experiences, a night dive in Blue Hole can take diving to a whole new level. Knowing how to dive at night can afford divers a new range of possible dive locations, as well as the chance to see nocturnal fauna.  Note: The Night Diver Specialty counts toward the Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) certification.

Students will learn to:

  1. Properly use lights and other gear in night-time conditions.
  2. Communicate with hand signals while using lights.
  3. Use training and techniques to handle situations in which lights are dropped or malfunction.

Prerequisites

In order to begin the Enriched Air Diver Specialty, all students must:

  • Hold a PADI Open Water Diver certification, or qualifying certification from another organization
  • Be at least ten (10) years of age or older
  • Complete a short medical questionnaire or have one on file (some students may have to consult their medical doctor to obtain a signature)

Equipment

It is recommended that students have their own mask, fins, and snorkel. Just as with the OWD, Deep Blue can provide these items for the duration of the Enriched Air Diver Specialty class, although it is strongly recommended that each student have their own.

All students will receive instructional materials necessary to study for and complete the Enriched Air Diver Specialty. Deep Blue will provide buoyancy control devices (BCDs), air, cylinders, weight belts, weights, and wetsuits for the duration of the class. Deep Blue will also provide students lights and whistles. The weekend diving license for Blue Hole (in Santa Rosa, NM) will also be provided.

Class & Dive Schedules

Classroom and dive sessions are scheduled on a student-by-student basis. That said, Deep Blue undertakes a night dive almost every other weekend at Blue Hole. Interested? Email or call us to setup a class!

It is important students understand that elevation changes between Santa Rosa and Albuquerque can adversely impact student safety. Deep Blue strongly advises students stay the night in Santa Rosa at after repetitive or deep diving. Students are advised that they should allow themselves several hours after the end of diving on the second day (if applicable) to out-gas before driving home.
